Big Six grubby cash-grab is bad news but no big surprise

LEICESTER CITY’S title triumph was a wonderful fairy tale.

Even if you weren’t emotionall­y involved, the story restored our faith in English football.

It was the most romantic footballin­g yarn of our lifetimes.

A ragtag and bobtail collection of individual­s, led by charismati­c Italian boss Claudio Ranieri, winning the Premier League against huge odds.

Grabbing

Well, they did it because they could pay decent wages. They didn’t overspend on transfers.

Ranieri (below) and his backroom team put together a side that grew stronger together, believed in themselves and lived up to the dream.

The chance of it happening again drifted over the horizon this week after six clubs tipped a lop-sided Premier League even more in their favour. argument goes that the growth in audience figures is being fuelled by fan bases the top six have built in Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and so on, and that they deserve to reap the rewards.

It’s great that the Premier League has this reach.

But that’s the key point – it’s a competitio­n.

The former Gunners chief always had one eye on promoting youth.
