Hadley tweeted after Thursday’s triumph: “Hoping to get a massive No1 to celebrate #NHS70 & raise lots for charity.”

Sir Paul Mccartney gave permission for the track to be re-released.

The recording was filmed by ITV and will be featured in a 90-minute show next month.

That will include a bid to smash the world record of 6,904 people in a live singalong.

NHS heroes from all over Britain will team with the Lewisham and Greenwich choir and celebrities for the attempt, to be hosted by DJ Sara Cox and Diversity dancer Ashley Banjo.

The NHS choir last topped topped the charts at Christmas in 2015 with A Bridge Over You, a mash-up of Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water and Coldplay’s Fix You. The choir of nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, porters and administrators overtook Justin Bieber after he urged his 72 million Twitter followers to buy the charity single.

The choir’s mastermind, NHS communications worker Joe Blunden, said: “We are determined to get to No1 again.

“I never expected the recording to be so moving. You could tell everybody was really passionate about the NHS and really had a reason to be singing with us.

“It was also a fantastic moment for members of the NHS choir who got to meet their musical heroes.”

Midwife Lizzie Farrant was overwhelmed to have her picture taken with Blue and said: “Can’t believe I’m part of such an amazing project.” Loose Women star Coleen Nolan, 53, said: “It was a fabulous day chatting to all the NHS staff. They were so thrilled to be there. Who doesn’t love the NHS? “When I was asked to take part it was an instant ‘yes’. “My sisters had their cancer treatment on the NHS and there isn’t one part of it I could fault. Nurses would be at the end of a 12-hour shift but it would be like they had just started the day. They are wonderful.” Una Healy said she wanted to make the record to give something back to the NHS after her eight-year-old son Tadhg was rushed to hospital. Una, 36, said: “I recently experienced first-hand how lucky we are to have the NHS in this country.

“My son suffered from chicken pox which led to fairly serious complications which the NHS sorted out before they became dangerous.

“My daughter Aoife also recently broke her arm and she was treated so brilliantly by the NHS doctors and nurses.”

Beverley Knight tweeted: “I am so happy to be one of many artists and NHS staff there.”

Tony Hadley tweeted: “I’m proud to be joining forces with some NHS staff and lots of others to create a unique version of the Beatles song.”
