- By Judy Broadbent and Nicola Small

A COUPLE who went on the Jeremy Kyle show are trying to have the episode scrapped and claim they were “humiliated, abused and covered in his spit”.

Julie Deighton and Steve Robson say they knew of the show’s “warts and all” reputation – but they still never dreamed they would come out THAT badly.

They have filed a four-page complaint to TV chiefs and say they were “duped, goaded and ridiculed” and even “showered” by Kyle’s saliva while he let rip with one of his famous lectures.

Producers asked them to take part after ex-lag Steve’s daughter Stevie, 29, said she wanted him to take a DNA test to prove he was her dad. It did so.

The couple say they were “bombarded” with calls from Kyle’s team.

Assured

Julie, 48, says: “We were coached, goaded, ridiculed and humiliated. I hope the episode is thrown on the cutting room floor where it belongs.” She claims researchers phoned “nonstop” to glean information about them. Julie, of Bridlington, East Yorks, adds: “We were assured nothing of Steve’s background would be used. Nor was I informed I’d be part of the show. We were lied to. “From the moment Jeremy Kyle introduced Steve as a former druggie alcoholic who has been in prison most of his daughter’s life, the audience started to boo. Steve was JULIE and Steve should have known what to expect – the Jeremy Kyle Show has been exposing family bust-ups to the nation for 13 years.

A bouncer called Security Steve is on hand to break up fights and protect 53-year-old Kyle from irate guests.

Few fans will forget the time the host was sent flying after getting caught in the middle of fisticuffs between two warring made out to be a monster. It was horrible. The production team told us to “go out there guns blazing and stand up and shout as that shows power”.

We were set up for a big fall. “When Jeremy Kyle started on me I got showered with his saliva. I felt physically sick. To me that was a form of abuse.”

Julie is also furious about how the audience heard accusations that her 13st weight loss was due to drug use.

She said: “According to Stevie I lost the weight through using amphetamines and I’m a drug user. That’s rubbish. I lost 13st through sheer willpower and dieting. That accusation could lose me my job as a carer and destroy my reputation.

“I cried all the way home. Next day we were contacted and asked to discuss our experience. I wrote a letter stating in no uncertain terms what we thought and asked them to pull the programme.

“It shows us in a very bad light and could ruin our lives. Steve has turned his life around.

“We are good people and not like we are portrayed by Jeremy Kyle. It was not what we were led to believe it was going to be. It’s all staged.”

A source close to the show said: “They are upset they didn’t come across very well, but that isn’t a reason to pull the episode. It will be aired. They have been offered aftercare but haven’t accepted.”

ITV declined to comment. sisters. Equally memorable was the time he turned to a lady in the audience for help.

He hoped she could explain to him what was going on as he struggled to keep up with the angry ranting of two guests with broad Scottish accents.

Meanwhile, more than 4.5 million people have watched the hilarious clip on Youtube of a husband claiming he was convinced his wife had cheated because she came home smelling of “sex”.

And the show has had its fair share of infamous guests – including dad-of-17 Mick Philpott who, tragically, went on to kill six of his kids when he torched his Derby home.

Celebs have appeared too, with ex-eastenders star Danniella Westbrook, 44, sobbing as she admitted taking cocaine while giving birth.
