Eight years ago Anthony Seibold was coaching South Wales Scorpions in the third tier of the profession­al game. Now the former London Broncos and Hull KR player is in charge of Russell Crowe’s glamour club South Sydney, with his Rabbitohs team currently sitting joint-top of the NRL. The 43-year-old – who has also worked as teacher and university lecturer – has spent the last five years working under the leading coaches in Australia.

When former Wigan boss Michael Maguire left Souths at the end of last year, Seibold was chosen to step up from his role as assistant.

His team, which includes Sam Burgess and his twin brothers George and Sam, have now won 10 of their last 11 matches.

But it is in coaching where he has now reached the top level of the sport in the club game with Souths. Seibold said: “Over here the Rabbitohs are an iconic sport brand, not just in rugby league but right across Australia. I’m loving my time here.”
