Scam of the week

-

This is transport and accommodation advertised and sold together by a tour operator. YOUR RIGHTS: You have the right to expect the holiday you paid for. It must be as described within the marketing materials you were shown. If not, the company you booked it with has a legal obligation to put it right. If they fail, you can claim compensation. QUOTE THE LAW: When you complain, make sure you do so in writing and that you have supporting evidence such as photos and that you quote the law. There are the Package Travel Regulations and the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which says services must be provided with reasonable care and skill. TAKE IT FURTHER: If the tour operator refuses compensation or offers an unacceptable amount, complain to travel agent trade association Abta at abta.com. VICTIMS of time shares that are dodgy are getting a second kick in the teeth. Actionfrauduk reported this week that fraudsters are taking advantage of previous scams and advising victims they are owed compensation. Thing is, they are told they need to pay a fee to get the cash. Victims are being offered the chance, either by phone call or letter, to reclaim money back from their timeshare or exit early for a fee. Fraudsters are then advising them that the amount “owed” can be released. These fees range from £2,500 to £9,000 – and additional amounts have also been requested to cover maintenance or legal cover.
