We’ll poll axe May if she calls election Tory MPS’ leader threat

- By Nigel Nelson

A RIOT cop looks like an abstract work of art after demonstrators hurled paint at him and his colleagues.

The officers in Barcelona, Spain, were caught in the middle when proindependence protesters tried to stop marchers calling for better police pay.

Paint rained down as antiriot cops struggled with TORY MPS will this week warn Theresa May she will be toppled if she tries to force a General Election to save her skin.

If the Prime Minister’s Chequers plan for Brexit is voted down in the Commons later this year, as expected, she will have to resign or go to the polls in a last-ditch effort to restore her authority.

And as they gather in Birmingham for the party conference, her MPS fear shields and batons to keep the two groups apart.

The battle came before tomorrow’s anniversary of the Catalan region’s illegal independence vote. another poll so soon will hand power to Jeremy Corbyn. They will warn Mrs May they will trigger the remaining 48 letters from MPS needed for a no confidence vote in her. It is believed 40 are in.

One MP said: “If she calls for an election on a Monday those letters will be in by Tuesday. There’s no way we’re going to the ballot box again with her in charge.”

To spark a leadership fight, 158 MPS would then have to vote against her – and an election cannot be held while the Tories have no party leader.

Meanwhile, Boris Johnson will make his pitch for the top job in Birmingham on Tuesday.

A source said he is gaining Cabinet support for his plan to replace Chequers with the kind of EU trade deal Canada has. They said: “Cabinet ministers are now so frightened of no deal they are pushing for Canada.” But a Cabinet source said of his leadership chances: “Boris played at being Foreign Secretary, made offensive remarks about the burka and made no attempt to cultivate the new intake of MPS.” THE personal details of Tory MPS and Cabinet Ministers, including mobile numbers, were exposed in a security breach on the party’s conference app.
