Protect us from these monsters

-

Today we bring you shocking news about the number of violent rapists who are free to reoffend.

These monsters are locked up after committing some of the most heinous crimes possible.

So why are they being released at such an alarming rates? The statistics are terrifying. In the past five years 264 rapists freed from prison went on to strike again. That’s up a third since 2013. That’s five people a month who fall prey to these monsters.

It’s quite obvious. The system is not working.

Even if these people have served their sentences there should be strict assessments made on them. Starting with the most important question: are they fit to walk the streets?

That’s the responsibility of prison staff, psychologists, police, social services, probation, and whoever else needs to be involved. Because these are vital decisions.

These people must be rehabilitated before they go free.

Or at least show they are remorseful and have learned their lesson.

We lock them up for a bit then let them out to do it again. It’s not good enough. The cynical nature of politics calculates that prisons are not a vote winner. But it’s time to put that aside. Our prisons are an important issue. Get them right and crime will fall. The streets will be less dangerous. We will all be safer.

And who on earth would vote against that?
