Kim gets her life back due to all of you

-

KIM Smith was enjoying a holiday in the sun with her husband Steve when disaster struck.

She developed a severe kidney infection which led to sepsis.

And her condition deteriorated at a frightening rate.

Kim was flown back to the UK in an induced coma.

When she came round, she faced a terrible decision. To save her life, surgeons would have to remove all her limbs. Kim made the choice to live. And she vowed to keep fighting. Her spirit shone through from the start. She was in the gym every day, building up her strength. What should have been 12 weeks of rehabilitation was finished in seven. The next battle was prosthetics. She wanted as much movement as possible and set her sights on a Hero Arm.

That’s where our readers stepped in. You dug deep and helped fund her new arm.

We’re always proud of our readers. Whenever there’s someone in need or a just cause to back, you’re there.

Sometimes it’s with money. Sometimes it’s by signing a petition. Sometimes it’s sending your messages of support.

But we know, whatever the cause, you’re going to step up.

The quick actions of the Spanish authorities, the brilliance of the medical team and the astonishing technology are all important aspects of this story. And they all need to be saluted. But they sit alongside Kim’s determination not to give in. And your generosity. Together you’ve got Kim to the point where – in her own words – she’s got her life back.

We’re proud of you. And there’s really only one way to mark your achievement and this remarkable lady’s courage.

High fives all round.
