Hughie so hungry for AJ in April

- By Tom Hopkinson

HUGHIE FURY is ready to book a date with destiny at Wembley Stadium in April, by putting himself in pole position to face Anthony Joshua.

Fury, 24, takes on Bulgarian fighter Kubrat Pulev at the Arena Armeec in Sofia, Bulgaria, on Saturday in a title eliminator for a shot at AJ’S IBF heavyweight belt.

And if he comes through successfully, Fury doesn’t want to hang around with any tune-up fights before facing the three-belt world champion – he wants him straight away.

That would mean meeting Joshua on April 13 – the date the IBF, WBA and WBO champ has already booked at Wembley for his next outing.

Fury said: “Joshua is the fight I want, and that’s the fight I believe will happen eventually.

“I’d face him straight away, I’d take April 13 in a heartbeat. That Wembley date would have my name written all over it.”

Fury insists the chance to walk out in front of 80,000-90,000 fight fans at Wembley Stadium would still only be about one thing to him — winning.

He added: “All it would mean is getting those belts. It’d be my chance to get them and, believe me, I will be taking that chance with both hands.

“I see myself as a stadium fighter, 100 per cent.

“I wouldn’t be in this business if I didn’t think I could become world champion.”

To get his shot at Joshua (above) — in what would be Fury’s second world title fight, after losing to former WBO champ Joseph Parker 13 months ago — he must beat Pulev.

And Fury reckons he has three key attributes that will make that happen.

“Youth, more hunger and ability,” he said. “My speed will definitely get the better of a man of that size.

“We’ve got everything covered if he comes for a fight, or if he comes for a boxing match.

“I’m just looking forward to it now, and getting in the ring to get the job done.

“I just want to get over there, and I don’t let things distract me. I probably don’t get the credit I deserve for the fights I’ve had at my age.

“Pulev is a good fighter, he’s very experienced, but we have put in all the work in the gym. It’s going to be a very exciting fight on the night.

“It doesn’t really bother me where I fight him. It’s a ring and it’s a pair of gloves. You train and that doesn’t matter.

“It could be my back garden, his back garden – the fight is going to happen and that’s what matters.”
