MORGAN GIBBS-WHITE plans on giving Wolves the spirit to beat Arsenal today and prove his late mentor Cyrille Regis right.
Molineux’s teen sensation – a World Cup winner with England’s Under-17s just 12 months ago – has now made the breakthrough into Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans.
That’s seen him become one of just six 18-year-olds to have played in the Premier League this season – and that would have delighted Regis, who died in January this year, aged 59, after a heart attack.
Gibbs-white (right) said: “Cyrille was my agent – but he was more than that to me.
“He was a friend, like a family member. He helped me out when I couldn’t turn to anyone else to ask them for advice.
“He was an inspiration. For a start, he was a great player. Also the things he went through – the way he dealt with racism, for example. He inspired me and improved me. He definitely helped me get where I am today.
“It was gut-wrenching to see what happened to him and the way he left us. I couldn’t thank him enough for what he did for me.
“I’m doing what I’m doing now for him and for everyone else who has helped me.”
Gibbs-white drew praise from Match Of The Day pundit Danny Murphy after an eye-catching cameo against Tottenham last week. But the youngster said: “I possibly added a bit of spirit, but it’s important I stay humble. If I let it go to my head, that’s not going to help. “The mood in the camp is high ahead of the Arsenal game – we will go out believing that we can get a performance, and a victory.”
