MUM’S HORROR AT

- By Simon Wright

ALL eyes were on beaming newlyweds Hayley and Ray Weatherall as they kissed after saying their vows.

But with the wedding reception in full flow, there was one person who didn’t seem to share the joy.

Hayley’s proud mum Heather Burgess couldn’t help notice that Ray’s best friend Glenn Pollard seemed fixated by her daughter on her big day.

Heather, 62, told the Sunday People this week: “I remember noticing that he couldn’t take his eyes off Hayley and that Ray didn’t seem to want to let her out of his sight whenever Glenn was nearby.”

A year later the truth came out – and it was more shocking than Heather could ever have imagined. Hayley and Glenn had embarked on a passionate affair and began plotting to kill 53-yearold Ray... even though he had been diagnosed with brain cancer.

Registered gun owner Pollard, 49, persuaded his daughter Heather Pollard, 19, to shoot his best friend in the head with a sniper rifle. But the teenager couldn’t pull the trigger. Nine days later she tried again and lay in wait for five hours before shooting Ray as he took a walk in Sandwich Marina, Kent.

Miraculously he survived when the bullet missed his major arteries and lodged in his jaw.

Evil Hayley, 32, sent a text from Ray’s bedside to her lover’s daughter to say: “They didn’t do a very good job, he’s still here.” The third time, the trio plotted to poison diabetic Ray with an insulin overdose.

Mum Heather said: “Even though Glenn knew Ray was dying, he couldn’t wait to have her.”

On Tuesday Hayley, Pollard and Pollard’s daughter were jailed for life after being found guilty at Maidstone Crown Court of conspiracy to murder.

Incredibly Ray, who has three children with Hayley, says: “I love her. I always have and I always will.”

Hayley’s mum Heather, a divorced shop worker of Canterbury, Kent, said: “I believe the wedding day was when Glenn set his sights on stealing her – I just can’t believe Hayley has ended up going along with him.

Ruined

“She’s not totally innocent of course, but Glenn is a very manipulative man. He was fixated on Hayley.

“He wanted to get rid of Ray so he and Hayley could be together. Glenn knew Ray was dying but he couldn’t wait to have her.

“He told Hayley that if she was with him she could have an open relationship. He told her he would look after her better than Ray.

“Hayley was always a sensible girl. I can’t understand why she has been taken in by him. He has ruined her life.”
