Scottish Round-up

LEIGH GRIFFITHS overcame the “dark times” of being sidelined for six weeks by scoring in Celtic’s 3-0 win at Hamilton.

The Hoops striker had been absent since the 6-0 triumph over St Johnstone on October 7 due to a calf problem and illness.

He also pulled out of Scotland’s double-header with Israel and Portugal last month.

The 28-year-old started on the bench but replaced Odsonne Edouard in the 73rd minute and drilled in a 25-yard free-kick nine minutes later as the Bhoys went two points clear at the top of the Premiership table.

Griffiths said: “It has been a frustrating five or six weeks for me, trying to build my fitness up. To come back and score like that was great.

“It was dark times, a lot of frustration, but you just have to get on with it and do your rehab properly.”

Goals from Ryan Christie and Scott Sinclair – which owed a lot to a deflection off Hamilton midfielder Scott Martin – had put Celtic 2-0 up.

Rangers moved up to second with a 3-0 win over Livingston. Steven Gerrard’s side benefited from Hearts’ shock 2-0 defeat at St Mirren.

Motherwell thumped Aberdeen 3-0 and bottom club Dundee got a hardearned point at Hibs, despite falling 2-0 behind.

St Johnstone and Kilmarnock drew 0-0.
