BRISTOL CITY Hero Eros no statue ROBINS SUB PISANO IS ALIVE TO THE MAIN CHANCE

- By LINDSAY SUTTON at Ewood Park

SUPER SUB Eros Pisano certainly has a classic name, and this Gentleman from Verona scored the goal that broke the deadlock.

It may not have been a classic strike, but Pisano’s bundled effort from a corner kept the Robins rol l i ng on towards securing that end-of-season play-off spot.

The 31- year- old Italian went up for a late corner, taken by City powerhouse Callum O’dowda, shook off his marker and prodded home at the far post with just 10 minutes left on the clock.

It was only Pisano’s second goal of the season, but it meant that Lee Johnson’s side have now chalked up eight wins on the bounce and 14 without defeat.

Johnson admitted: “Eros was certainly an unlikely hero. I brought him on because Bailey Wright was on one yellow and could have picked up another. Little did I know that when I threw him on he would end up with the winner.”

Johnson added: “We knew it would be tight here. Tony Mowbray has done a fantastic job and our central defenders did very well to keep out their strike force.

“It’s another huge win for us and we take the three points and move on quickly to Tuesday’s game against QPR and then the FA Cup. Exciting times for the fans.”

Rovers boss Mowbray was critical of his side for letting City score from a corner. “It’s frustrating and I’m really disappointed and told the lads that,” he said.

“We grafted so hard and it’s frustrating to have nothing for your efforts. Players have to do their jobs and defend set-pieces better than that.”

Tough on Blackburn, but Pisano turned out to be City’s lucky charm.

Bristol City have now won six consecutive Championship games, their best winning streak in the top two tiers of English football since September 1927.
