Warne ton of despair

OWLS LEAVE IT UNTIL 100 MINUTES TO WHOOP IT UP

- By NATHAN HEMMINGHAM at the New York Stadium SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY:

ROTHERHAM manager Paul Warne was so upset Sheffield Wednesday equalised with 100 minutes on the clock he couldn’t be bothered to get an explanation from referee Darren England.

The Owls l evelled two minutes after the eight added following defender Jordan Thorniley’s head injury to deny relegation-threatened Rotherham a crucial victory and leave Warne fuming.

Asked if he was going to speak to the referee about where the time came from, Warne said: “What’s the point? I don’t think I can be bothered.

“He will either apologise or come up with a reason why, and I will have to accept it.

“He told me eight minutes, I set my watch and he was two minutes over that when they scored. Where did those two minutes come from? I have no idea.”

The Millers, stuck in the bottom three, wasted golden chances in the first half-hour through Anthony Forde and Michael Smith.

Those misses looked to be coming back to haunt them when Fernando Forestieri fired the Owls in front on 35 minutes after Adam Reach broke away.

The lead lasted only 60 seconds or so though, as Rotherham, much the better side in the first half, were level when Smith got to the byline and his cut- back was tucked away by Jon Taylor.

Rotherham continued to miss chances but finally made one count 16 minutes from time when Richie Towell’s effort went i in off the post after Smith p pounced on Michael Hector’s p poor clearance.

It looked enough to record a long overdue win, but in that spell of added time Dominic Iorfa bundled the ball home to break Rotherham hearts. The Owls also had Forestieri sent off for his part in the celebrations.

Boss Steve Bruce is still unbeaten since arriving at Hillsborough but it was no consolation.

He said: “We have got away with one there. I am delighted we kept going until the end, but we made more mistakes here than in my three weeks at the club.

“I don’t understand why Forestieri was sent off for celebrating with the fans. “We had 17 players in there with the supporters, so why pick on him?” 4 0
