Karyo almost gets run over by a bike in one nail- biting shot. Griffin said: “There’s a shot of Tcheky walking into a bar in the second episode and it looks like he’s about to be hit by a bicycle. Every time I watch it I think he’s going to get hit.”
Despite the intense plot, the cast and crew often unwound at the weekend by going on boozy boat trips around the canals of Ghent in Belgium.
Hollander would also keep things light on set by teasing producer Griffin about all the things that were going wrong behind the cameras.
I t was only when Hollander geared up for his intense scenes that he would be withdrawn and concentrate.
Griffin said: “Tcheky was like a fa- ther to everyone on set but it was Tom who was always good for a laugh.
“He has an amazing sense of humour and is the driest, funniest man I’ve met in a long time. He liked to tease me if he knew anything was going wrong, or I was a bit stressed. But you could tell when he got into the zone for his character’s intense scenes. He would go from fun to super focused.”
The cast and crew also let their hair down at the party at the end of filming in Belgium, with Karyo serenading everyone by playing French songs on his guitar.
There was also a reel of bloopers put together to poke fun at the actors, which included a series of clips of Karyo yawning on set between takes.
Griffin said: “Tcheky often worked really long and unsocial hours. We sometimes wrapped at 5am.
“The blooper reel featured about 30 seconds of shots we put together of Tcheky yawning between takes but the camera was still rolling.”
One things is certain, viewers are extremely unlikely to be yawning
