From there it was on to a paddle boat, which our four-year-old son steered and powered like a captain on the high seas.

Happily, Harry’s nautical adventure was in the safety of the indoor complex at Sand le Mere holiday village. And we quickly discovered the coastal resort in Yorkshire’s fabulous East Riding was packed with family fun.

Earlier he had excitedly unpacked his toys and books at our lodge, which came with all mod-cons, a veranda and private hot tub.

This luxury lodge would be home for my wife Nicola and Harry for our five-day stay at Sand le Mere, which also offers a range of caravans and touring pitches.

There was a packed entertainm­ent schedule, with evening laughs for all ages.

Tribute bands, magic acts, solo artists, comics, cabaret and bingo are all on the line- up throughout the summer season.

There is a restaurant, takeaway and shop on the sprawling site.

The emphasis is on activities for children, from the little ones to teenagers, making sure you will never hear an “I’m booooored”. The

SADLY, East Riding has suffered coastal erosion over the years. Take care and look out for warning signs. MANY tourist attraction­s are spread across a wide area so plan days out before you

arrive at the resort.
