Scam of the week

-

The good news is Super Breaks was a member of the Association of British Travel Agents, which gives a degree of protection.

Most customers have yet to travel and should be able to get a refund through Abta or another protection scheme. Tourists overseas should be able to fly home as normal.you can check with the Civil Aviation Authority first.

But Super Break customers who booked accommodation only will not have the usual Abta protection. Super Breaks cancelled these bookings so you will have to pay again for accommodation.

You can reclaim the money via a section 75 claim to your credit card provider. If you use a debit card, make a chargeback claim to your card provider. But if you booked more than 180 days ago, the chargeback scheme will not be available. LATE ROOMS

When customers make a booking via Late Rooms it merely acts as an agent, putting the consumer and hotel together. So all bookings should be unaffected by the collapse. I’VE heard about a new scam where fraudsters are chasing up fines and pretending to be from the local authority.

They say they are calling about an unpaid parking ticket and warn them the matter is about to be passed to the magistrates court unless payment is made straight away.

The victim tells the caller they know nothing about any ticket.

But they are told it would have been left on their car and it must still be paid or it will become a criminal matter.

Many people are simply paying over the phone, out of fear of the consequences.

Do not panic. It is a scam.
