Point taken for Siewert

- By ROBERT DUNFORD at Loftus Road

JAN SIEWERT wants his Huddersfield players to kick on from their draw at QPR.

Rangers denied the Terriers a first win after a powerful header from

Grant Hall cancelled out Karlan Grant’s penalty.

Boss Siewert said: “This is quite disappointing but we are point collectors, we take this away point and learn from it.

“When you’re away, it’s about trying not to give them chances. After we scored, we dropped a bit too deep, but still we defended everything until with a few minutes to go.

“I take the positives, as I always do, and now we face Fulham at home.”

The Championship game was the first staged by QPR since they gave the naming rights to their Loftus Road stadium to a charity set up after Kiyan Prince, a player in the club’s academy who was stabbed to death in May 2006 at the age of 15.

Ebere Eze forced two saves from Kamil Grabara early on while Juninho Bacuna forced Joe Lumley to palm away on 13 minutes. The game became scrappy under windy conditions although Alex Pritchard forced Lumley to parry on 36 minutes.

Bacuna was lucky to stay on the pitch after a high challenge on Ryan Manning just before the break.

Referee Dean Whitestone only cautioned the 22-year-old but Siewert still replaced him at half time.

While sub Elias Kachunga changed the game after being fouled for the penalty that gave the Terriers the lead, Siewert wanted to keep his Dutch player safe.

He said: “We had to substitute Bacuna because it was dangerous for him.

“But what I like about him is that he’s always aggressive and tries to do everything so I know there was no intent to hurt the player.

“When Elias came on I knew he would change the game because he was focused.”

Kachunga made an immediate impact after Yoann Barbet bought him down in the area three minutes after the restart.

Grant stepped up to blast the spot-kick past Lumley.

QPR, though, deservedly equalised on 83 minutes when Hall headed home a Manning free-kick at the far post.

Rangers could not find a winner, but manager Mark Warburton felt his side deserved more.

He said: “All due respect to Huddersfield, but I thought we dropped two points.” QPR HUDDERSFIELD 5 ........ Shots on Target .........4 5 ........
