IT’S TIME TO STOKE IT UP Jones fumes at winless Potters

-

NATHAN JONES was an emotional wreck as Stoke extended their winless start to the season.

The Potters boss was fuming after watching his team fail to break their Championship duck against unbeaten Derby.

Jones ( below) said: “I’m devastated. I work so hard, 12 hours a day, seven days a week, to prep and structure and we were excellent in the first half.

“They score with their first foray into the box.

“But then we had so many chances we should be four, fiveone up... done and dusted.

“The second half, we were exactly the same, two or three chances. We should have three points.

“Derby are a real good footballing side who can carve you open but they had to change it at half-time to cope.

“I’m sick and tired of us missing chances because that is costing us games.

“We should have a minimum of six points but we haven’t – we’ve got one. We haven’t got a killer instinct.

“It’s confidence, it’s technique. It’s constant work. But we have to be better because we had enough chances there to win two football matches.

“We are outstanding in our play and our structure and everything we do, so it’s frustrating, really frustrating. It angers me, really. I’m just distraught that we could not get one more goal than the opposition because we created twice as many chances.”

Martyn Waghorn scored after just two minutes but Derby were pegged back by Liam Lindsay before Scott Hogan fired Stoke ahead.

Waghorn converted a penalty and missed a glorious opportunity to clinch all three points and grab a hat-trick. His chip was too soft and allowed Jack Butland the faintest of touches to safety.

Rams boss Phillip Cocu said: “It was a crucial moment to win the game after good link- up play. If he scored his hat-trick, fantastic for him and for us.

“If you look at the total game a draw is the right result. It could have gone both ways. It is a result we can live with.”

Waghorn missed a spot-kick against Swansea last week but he didn’t allow it to affect him. His opener came from a through pass by Kieran Dowell.

Stoke hit the woodwork twice – Joe Allen somehow striking a post from close range – while Tom Ince whacked the bar against his old club.

They equalised through a Lindsay header although Hogan was claiming it afterwards. STOKE DERBY 5 ........ Shots on Target .........6 8 ........ Lee Gregory put in the hard yards down the right, crossed and Hogan swept the ball past Kelle Roos.

Home celebrations were cut short after 70 minutes as Waghorn levelled from the spot when Tommy Smith was judged to have fouled George Evans.
