PAUL TISDALE was upbeat despite MK Dons’ defeat.

Joe Jacobson’s penalty was cancelled out by Jordan Bowery while Jordan Houghton scored from the spot after Fred Onyedinma had put the hosts back ahead.

Conor Mcgrandles missed a penalty before David Wheeler netted the winner late on.

Tisdale said: “I’m really optimistic after that performance.”

Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth said: “The script was written for Wheeler to score against his old club.” PHIL PARKINSON is worried for his young Bolton team’s welfare.

Morgan Ferrier scored twice, while Ollie Banks, Connor Jennings and Stefan Payne also netted for Tranmere.

Parkinson said: “It’s not right sending young players out who aren’t ready for this environment.”

Tranmere boss

Micky Mellon said: “We haven’t got really anywhere near where I expect us to get to.”

The forward gave unbeaten Sunderland their first league win this season with his maiden goal of the capaign.

All the goals came in t he f i rst half as ex- Portsmouth loanee Maguire (right) struck after Jordan Willis had levelled Marcus Harness’ opener for the visitors.

Jordan Shipley and Gervane Kastaneer were on the scoresheet as Coventry eased to victory.

The hosts went into the break in front after Shipley netted from a Wesley Jobello cross on the stroke of half-time following an evenlybalanced first 45 minutes.

Kastaneer fired a leftfooted effort from 30 yards which bent around Oxford and away to Ipswich. But after watching his side come from behind again, Ross said: “The start has been solid. We would have liked it to have been better, but we’ve had some tough games.

“We knew on paper it was a tough start – the vultures probably thought it was a tough start – but we’ve come out of it reasonably well.’’

The downside for Ross was a hamstring in jury sustained by on-loan

Marc Mcnulty, Jaakola and in off the post to seal victory with eight minutes remaining.

Coughlan said “I have to question myself if we’re too gung-ho away from home.

“We are a little bit too expansive which leaves us vulnerable – I’ll be taking a long look in the mirror tonight.

“I’m disappointed. We play on the front foot and we caused Coventry but he was pleased to see Maguire get off the mark.

Ross said: “Chris had some niggling injuries in pre-season. He always backs himself to play and, with his ability, he should play every game.

“But he has to match that with application and work rate, and he did that perfectly well.’’

Pompey made a 22nd-minute breakthrough, Harness racing from h a l fw ay, before John Mar q u i s w a s crowded out. But the ball broke kindly on the right for problems, but they are an expansive team, play with three strikers and they used the width well.

“We’ve conceded two goals in both our away games now – and I have to take the blame.”

Coventry counterpart Mark Robins said: “I’m very happy. I thought we were really good.

“We played a brave, attractive brand of football.

“We are starting to look dangerous, starting to take our chances, we were Harness to steer a low shot into the far corner.

Sunderland equalised five minutes later when centre-back Willis got the run on his man to meet skipper Grant Leadbitter’s right-wing corner and angle in a header.

The hosts were ahead six minutes before halftime. Pompey right-back Anton Walkes turned into trouble and Aiden Mcgeady’s burst of pace gave him space for a low centre which Maguire tucked into an empty net.

Pompey boss Kenny Jackett said: “If you come to Sunderland and have that much of the game, you can’t be a bad team.”

controlling the play. It’s early days, but the clean sheet was outstanding – I’m delighted.

“The goals were good goals, the timing of the first affected the game greatly and the second was outstanding – one of the best goals I’ve seen a team of mind score.

“It’s a great start for Gervane Kastaneer.

“We played some breath-taking football but the clean sheets are really important for us.”
