The Things We Left Unsaid – Emma Kennedy, Century – out now

REELING from her dad’s death and jilted by her fiancé, Rachel retreats to the home of her mum, artist Eleanor. Their always difficult relationship becomes even more strained. This is an easy to read family drama with a vivid depiction of Eleanor’s 60s student life. Clear My Name – Paula Daly, Bantam – out now ADVOCATE Tess dedicates her working life to righting wrongful convictions. But the case of Carrie, in prison for the murder of her husband’s lover, opens a can of worms from Tess’s own troubled past.

This superbly characterdriven story comes with a sharp plot and a terrific sting in the tale.

THIS 1.1-mile walk from the gatehouse at Charlecote Park, Warks, starts by going towards the main house and turning right through a blue gate. 1 Walk between cedar lawn and croquet lawn towards a thatched summerhouse then on a path ahead to left of summerhouse along length of Long Border. Through metal gate on left, down into parkland. Take gentle slope towards River Avon. 2 Turn from house, follow mown path towards waterfall at head of the lake. From here, bear left to follow Hill Park walk, eventually rejoining path you were on, half-way along lake.

3 Carry on along lakeside and bear right as you reach boundary fence, continuing to follow mown path towards St Leonard’s church.

4 With your back to church, follow the path down avenue of trees back towards the gatehouse. For more details see Nationaltrust.org.uk.
