then put a cross into the area for Robinson to divert his diving header just wide of the far post.

Yet it was another United error at the back that handed Chelsea their second, on 43 minutes. After Jack O’connell and John Egan collided as they both leapt for Jorginho’s ball over the top, it ran to Abraham who neatly dispatched it into the bottom corner.

Robinson ( below) scored just seconds after the restart, firing home from an Enda Stevens delivery, and provided the cross that led to the equaliser, as the ball slid past Lys Mousset and in off Zouma’s shin.

It was no more than United deserved for their second-half display, which saw them have the home side under constant pressure.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder admits he had laid into Henderson and Robinson at half-time af after the keeper’s gaffe and the Iri Irishman’s miss.

“We always knew we were going to be on the back foot, the manner of the go goals disappoints me, because they are t two individual errors,” Wilder said.

“We can’t give ourselves a mountain to climb. To come roaring back as we did second-half, hopefully gives us an enormous amount of belief and c confidence going forward.

“We understand what we are up against. Three years ago we were bottom of League One and now we are going toe-to-toe in the Premier League.

“We are here on merit. I understand their apprehension, but we deserve to be in this division and I and the coaching staff believe in the players – a bit more than they do at times.

“I’m not bothered about reputations, names on shirts or badges, we are here to be competitive. I want us to play our way and be us. If the other team is better than us on the day, then fair enough. But we don’t want to go away wondering what could have been.”
