HE’S VARACIOUS Rodgers hails his ‘dream striker’ after double

- By DAVE ARMITAGE at the King Power Stadium

TWO-GOAL Jamie Vardy had Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers drooling over his “dream” striker.

The Foxes’ boss reckons his prize hitman is virtually unplayable when he has the bit between his teeth.

Rodgers said: “To have that kind of talismanic striker up front is amazing. He’s a dream to work with.

“That was an amazing performance by him. He was just sensational today – not just his goals but his all- round hunger and work was incredible.

“Jamie is a player who can make a difference and he did.”

When Vardy is in this kind of mood he’s just irresistible – unless you happen to be a defender that is. He’s not just a Fox in the box, he pops up everywhere.

He chases and harries, makes a general nuisance of himself and there’s not a better finisher in the country. Cherries boss Eddie Howe admitted: “We obviously planned for him but he was a real threat, chasing lost causes. I ’ve got no complaints about the result but we only have ourselves to blame with mistakes for their goals.”

He didn’t idn t give them a minute’s ’s peace and keeper r Aaron Ramsdale ale escaped embarrassment assment a couple ple of times when he dallied ed on the e ball and d Va rdy y robbed ed him. The Foxes’ hitman’s opening pening goal after er just 12 minutes es had his mark all l over it. From the moment ment Ben Chilwell well launched ed it over r

Cherries’ s’

th e back line, you could sense Vardy already seeing the picture.

He spotted Ramsdale way out of his goal, adjusted his position as he ran before pulling back his right foot and lobbing it over the keeper into the net.

Full credit to the visitors because they hit straight back and Callum Wilson’s Wils finish was pretty special as well. He latched on to Ryan Fraser’s ball, waited wa for Kasper Schmeich Schmeichel to spread himself and clipped the b ball over him to sc score via a post.

But just bef before the break it was that man Vardy again squaring the ball across goal for Youri Tielemans to score at the far post. The Belgian would have been hard pressed to m miss and he then had a close shave with a VAR review which decided his contact c with Wilson’s ankle didn’t merit a red card. Howe said: “I saw it and it looked over the top and a dangerous challenge.

“I don’t know what VAR was thinking of there.”

Rodgers had a different slant, and said: “It might look worse when you slow it all down but it was totally unintentional and at first I wondered what they were looking at.”

Leicester were always going to need another just to make sure and on 73 minutes they put the game to bed when Vardy picked his spot and side-footed home after good work by James Maddison and Tielemans.
