Enjoy your Blu funday Radisson Blu, Birmingham

THE WELCOME

I was greeted by friendly, efficient reception staff who explained the ins and outs of the hotel and made me feel welcome. This is a modern hotel in the heart of the city with everything on the doorstep.

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

This 4-star hotel is just 550 yards from Birmingham New Street rail station and the Bullring shopping centre. It is also close to the International Convention Centre and the business district. The Mailbox shopping centre and Birmingham’s stores, theatres and galleries are a five-minute walk away.

THE ROOM

Ours was very spacious and airy with some good views over the city. A stunningly comfortable king-size bed meant I drifted off easily. And it was nice to start the day in a modern, well-sized bathroom.

The hotel has teamed up with nutritionist Sophie Bertrand, founder of Sophie’s Healthy Kitchen, to offer a series of breakfast menus with up to 100 items. I loved the fluffy pancakes and a very tasty full veggie cooked breakfast. Scrumptious!

THE SERVICE

A little disorganised in the morning but this could have been teething troubles as the breakfast menu was brand new.

THE SCENE

Birmingham has a busy shopping centre and thriving nightlife. We savoured a delicious Indian meal at Broad Street’s award-winning Pushkar restaurant. And we enjoyed a narrow boat tour of the city’s waterways from Sherborne Wharf on Sunday evening.

LOVED

The hotel’s close proximity to the city’s many amenities – and the fact it was just a short walk from the station.

HATED

A little more speed of service at the breakfast table would have been welcome, but the food made up for it.

VERDICT

Great value for such a comfy room which is so close to the city’s fun spots.

BOTTOM LINE

From £60 a night.
