Branching out in New York’s Flower District

-

Railroad, we headed up to the 35th floor to the glassencased, deeply glamorous Fleur Room bar and club, lined with floral velvet sofas.

Cocktails including Forget Me Not, Lilac Jane and Pretty in Pink are served topped with real flowers and go well with smoky truffle popcorn.

And you’re on a level with classic NY sights such as the Empire State Building too.

At weekends millennials queue to get into the club, complete with its DJ and glitter ball.

Sadly, jet lag did eventually force us back to our room. But that turned out to be no bad thing.

New York hotels are famed for their size – or lack of it – but 10ft high floor-to-ceiling windows let in the light and framed the view of the city outside.

The look is vintage-industrial – casement windows give a nod to the neighbourhood buildings.

There’s exposed concrete, oldschool phones and kitchen- style sinks with wrought iron taps.

The next day we woke early and hungry so discovered the romantic floral element of the hotel was complemented by equally romantic Italian restaurants.

Just off the lobby, the Feroce Cafe is a lovely space for a croissant and a coffee surrounded by dusky pink Venetian plastered walls.

Through an arch, the main fine-dining restaurant is a darkly lit space with parquet floors, and you gu guessed it, a gorgeous leafy slice of outside space.

After exploring the market, we sat at the gently curved m marble bar in the cafe and enj enjoyed a breakfast of sourdough toa toast topped with poached eggs an and avocado.

S Sitting there, I only wished I cou could have put down roots.
