Pat’s education keeps England T20 in business

- By Dean Wilson

ENGLAND starlet Pat Brown has revealed he swapped one new cap for another by giving up on his university graduation to play international cricket.

The pace bowler should be in a mortar board and gown at Worcester Cathedral on Tuesday to celebrate and confirm the 2:1 business degree that he completed while recovering from a stress fracture of the back.

Instead the 21-year-old (below) will be in Nelson continuing his cricketing education and hoping to turn out for England again following wing his wicket-taking ng T20 debut against New w Zealand in Christchurch h on Friday.

“It was obviously bviously a very nice experience xperience for me to play on this stage in England colours,” said id Brown after r taking 1-33 in the seven wicket win.

“I finished my course this year and I’m missing my graduation to be out here, , but I’m quite happy appy to miss it and nd be with England.

“Four years ago this seemed a million miles es away, even playing for Worcestershire hire is a great honour for me. It is something g I am trying to take ke in my stride and keep learning from people.

“I’m 21 and if I can tap into some of the brains in this dressing room it can only make me better.”

In the absence of several senior players there are plenty of opportunities for young players in this five match series, but there are still one or two experienced players to lean on such as Chris Jordan.

Brown will have to work out plenty for himself too though and the signs are that he is a fast learner.

He turned disappointment in the final over of a 50-over semi-final against Kent in 2018 into T20 finals day success a f few weeks later.

He has both the skills, wit with an outstand outstanding ‘knuckle ball’, b and the tempe temperament to be a succe success and that is why he has been signed by Melbourne S Stars in the Big Bash to replace Protea legend legen Dale Steyn.

Meanwhi Meanwhile, England’s Joe Jo Denly has been ruled ru out of the remaind remainder of the series because beca of an ankle inju injury.

The K Kent batsman batsman, 33, sustaine sustained ligamen ligament damage to his r right ankle during practice on Thu Thursday and missed Friday’s match match. En England hav have not su summoned a rep replacement at this stage. Game two is in Wellington tod today.
