‘Bite is bigger than our Bark’

- By at Ewood Park By NEIL GOULDING

TWO late goals in three minutes ended Blackburn’s wretched run – and wrecked Sheffield Wednesday’s winning streak.

It’s bad enough getting your tongue round the name Tosin Adarabioyo.

But the on-loan defender’s looping header rubbed out what had looked like a late winner for Owls’ loanee Jacob Murphy.

And minutes later, super-sub John Buckley got off the mark for Rovers with a strike that took a wicked deflection to beat keeper Keiren Westwood.

Owls boss Garry Monk was “hugely disappointed” about defeat, and said: “To turn off for a vital five minutes has cost us dearly. It proved a very costly lapse after we looked to be in control – but we have only ourselves to blame.

“We are hugely downhearted, especially after we put in such a massive effort in preparation for the match.”

Rovers boss Tony Mowbray admitted: “These are days to remember. It’s why you’re in football. We looked to be well and truly on the back foot after their goal, but we kept together and we kept going.

“I have to say that it’s not

Charlton v Preston

PRESTON hotshot Tom Barkhuizen is happy for the club to go under the radar in their quest for Premier League football.

The Lilywhites are flying high at the top end of the table – and Barkhuizen is helping to lead the charge having bagged four goals in his last four games.

“People don’t expect Preston to be up there, except only us,” admitted Barkhuizen (below), ahead of today’s away clash with Championship newcomers Charlton Athletic.

“It’s probably a good thing. We don’t go o out and spend £10million on a player, so I do think we go under the radar because of that.

“We don’t have a standout striker who we rely on to score 25 goals a season, which a lot of clubs do. We’re all consistently chipping in with goals and assists.

“We know how good we are and how good we can be. Hopefully we can help get the club promoted – that’s th a gold mine for f any club.

“The main aim is to get promoted. Alex Neil N is very ambitious am and it’s working work well. We’re up there on merit, it’s not a fluke.

“We go out and show the gaffer’s personality on the pitch. It’s all about hard work. I think the team really reflects him.

“The good thing about this dressing room and this club is that there’s no arrogance, no overconfidence.

“When you’ve got a dressing room like that it really helps.”

Preston last beat Charlton at The Valley four years ago and have not lost in their last three meetings with the Addicks.

But boss Neil warned: “Charlton have been a real thorn in teams’ sides this season. They are very, very dangerous.

“To have had the start they’ve had is fantastic, it’s a difficult league.”

That’s a view shared by former Charlton defender Patrick Bauer, who left last season’s League One play-off winners to join Preston in the summer.

The German centre-back said: “I had four good years with Charlton. They’ve signed some really good players, we know it will be tough.”
