Jones relieved to bag the loot

- By GEOFF KNOX at Kenilworth Road

GRAEME JONES reckons Luton’s late super show may have turned their season around.

Callum Mcmanaman and George Moncur both came off the bench to bag late goals after Kieffer Moore’s first-half header for Wigan looked to have inflicted more misery on the Hatters.

Boss Jones, a former Latics striker, said: “It’s wins like these that earn you the right to stay in this league. That’s 20 points from 20 games now and we have the lowest budget in the division.

“I didn’t care who we were playing today. I’ve got a big affinity with Wigan Athletic, but you’ve got your own professional pride to fight for and whoever was in the way, we needed to find a way. It came late and it came from two subs, but we found a way.”

Three minutes from time, exwigan player Mcmanaman had two wild swings at a loose ball in the box. And the second went in. If that wasn’t bad enough for Paul Cook’s men, Chey Dunkley was then sent off.

And Moncur sent the home fans into a frenzy when he buried a shot into the corner of the net with the last kick of the game.

Cook has seen his side blow 18 points from winning positions this term and was left scratching his head.

He said: “It’s like watching the same film over and over again when you already know the ending. You’ve got the prize in your hand and you let it go.”
