CARLO SPELLS OUT HIS VISION

- By John Richardson

CARLO ANCELOTTI delivered his vision for a brighter Everton future in an inspirational dressing room speech to the players following yesterday’s bore draw against Arsenal.

Ancelotti officially begins work as the Merseyside club’s highestever paid manager today but caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson revealed that the Italian has already made his mark.

Big Dunc said: “He came in after the game and made a lovely speech. It was fantastic the way he spoke to them. Everybody is on board and we go again on Monday. I’m looking forward to it.

“He said we had a fantastic fighting spirit, we showed a lot of energy and defended well. I’m sure he was very proud of the team today.”

The Toffees have not won any silverware since the 1995 FA Cup.

But three-time Champions League-winner Ancelotti is no stranger to lifting trophies with some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The Italian, who won the Premier League title with Chelsea in 2010, wants to transform the perennial underachievers after agreeing a bumper £11million-a-year deal.

Ancelotti, who watched the Gunners clash from the stands, said: “This is a great club with a rich history and a very passionate fan base.

“There is a clear vision from the owner and the board to deliver success and trophies. That is something that appeals to me as a manager and I am thrilled at the prospect of being able to work help make that vision a reality.”

Wishlist

Former manager David Moyes was linked with a return to Merseyside while Shanghai SIPG boss Vitor Pereira was also on the club’s wishlist.

But Ancelotti, 60, got the nod. He has named his son, Davide, as his assistant on the coaching staff.

And there is also a place for Ferguson, who stepped into the breach following Marco Silva’s sacking on December 5.

Ancelotti added: “I have seen from the performances in the last two weeks that the players are capable of so much.

“The work Duncan has done is a great credit to him. Strong organisation, strong discipline and the right motivation are some of the key ingredients in football.

“I’m pleased he will be part of my backroom team.”

Everton’s director of football Marcel Brands labelled Ancelotti as “one of the finest managers in world football” and a “proven winner”.

He said: “He knows how to build a trophy-winning side and we share the excitement of our fans at the prospect of him leading our team.”

Ancelotti has also been given the Royle seal of approval.

Former boss Joe Royle – the last man to bring silverware to the club – said: “You have to feel for the long-suffering Everton fans especially with what’s happening across Stanley Park at Liverpool.

“But you’ve got to say it’s a coup for the club bringing in Ancelotti. I don’t want to stick a knife in Marco Silva but there were doubts about his CV before he came – but there are certainly no doubts about Ancelotti’s CV.”
