Late leveller a Sarr point

- By STEVE JUDGE at Loftus Road

NABY SARR struck in the 95th-minute to grab a point for Charlton and redemption for himself.

His late strike had jubilant Addicks fans singing “Naby Sarr, he used to be s***, now he’s alright’ as they left the ground.

The song summed up the centre-half’s and Charlton’s topsy-turvy afternoon.

Sarr’s fluffed clearance gifted Geoff Cameron QPR’S sixthminute opener, then Nahki Wells missed two chances to put the hosts out of sight inside 30 minutes.

That left the door open for Lyle Taylor to mark his first start since August with the visitors’ 56th-minute equaliser.

Even then it looked as though Mark Pugh had spared Wells’ blushes when he restored Rangers’ lead with 20 minutes to go.

But then in a crazy twist of fate Cameron’s missed header put Sarr in to level.

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer said: “I’m delighted with the point but that was the least we deserved.

“In the end you have to dig deep and today we got that reward. If we had lost it

QPR would have been another tough one to take for me. Maybe this is that change of luck.

“They should’ve probably cleared it, then didn’t. Then it ended going into Naby’s path, and Naby’s halfbounced it into the goal.”

Charlton endured a torrid opening half hour.

Cameron punished Sarr when he mishit his clearance straight to the midfielder, who made no mistake from six yards.

It would have been worse if Wells had not headed aganst the bar from two yards or fired against Dillon Phillips legs following Ben Purrington’s back pass.

Charlton levelled when Albie Morgan’s 20-yarder was turned in by Taylor. Rangers sub Bright Osayi-samuel turned Jason Pearce inside out to tee-up Pugh for a tap-in to restore Rangers’ lead.

Taylor was denied a second equaliser when he headed against the bar and Charlton looked out on their feet until Phillips’ punt into the box flicked off Cameron’s head for Sarr.

Rangers boss Mark Warburton said: “The focus will be on the equaliser with 11 seconds to go but the fact is the game should have been over.

“It is difficult for strikers. No player ever misses on purpose. Being more clinical and getting your rewards is what it is about and today as a team, not just Nahki, we didn’t take our rewards.”
