STORM CHAOS
Soldier kills 20 in massacre at mall Ciara brings travel warnings
TERRIFIED staff at a coffee shop hide in cupboards as a rogue soldier stages a mass shooting – and live-streams it on Facebook.
At least 20 people were killed and 31 wounded as Sgt Major Jakapanth Thomma, 32, went on a bloody rampage in the Thai city of Karot.
He first killed his commanding officer and a 63-year-old woman following a row, then seized a machine gun from the weapons store and headed for the city in a military Humvee.
He sprayed bullets on his way to Terminal 21 shopping mall, leaving victims dead in the road, then marched inside and continued the slaughter.
Moments before he was taken offline, he streamed a video saying, “I’m tired... I can’t pull my finger any more.”
Shooting stopped as police moved in last night but the gunman was still at large.
THE worst storm to hit Britain in seven years is likely to spark widespread travel mayhem today.
Storm Ciara will bring 90mph winds and a month’s worth of rain causing air, ferry and train cancellations and treacherous road conditions.
Building damage and power cuts are also predicted as an amber weather warning covers nearly all the UK. Extra rail staff will deal with debris blown on tracks and overhead electric wires. Some lines have 50mph limits and timetables face disruption.
The National Trust has closed some properties today, unable to guarantee visitor safety. For the same reason the London Winter Run 10k event, which had 25,000 entrants, and other races around Britain have been cancelled.
Coastal areas will be hit by huge waves with the RNLI warning seaside areas will be “treacherous”. The RAC urged drivers to only make vital trips. A spokesman said: “Combine the strength of the wind with heavy showers, and you have a recipe for some treacherous driving conditions.”
Airports are advising people to check their flights before travelling.
Forecasters say that the rest of the week will be very windy with wintry showers and ice expected as temperatures plummet.
