I’d love there to be a pill you can take for heartbreak

over her split with music manager Jack Street. In 2011, she was labelled a cougar after dating One Direction singer Harry Styles, who was 17 while she was 31. And she claimed to have dated Prince Harry in 2009.

Caroline wrote in autobiography Storm in a C-cup: “Once the story got out that was it. We had to stop seeing each other. I was no longer Caroline Flack, TV presenter. I was Caroline Flack, Prince Harry’s bit of rough.”

She was also linked with rugby player Danny Cipriani and Strictly pro AJ Pritchard. Caroline said last year: “I love falling in love. It’s addictive.”

But deep down she wanted longterm commitment – and feared she had left it “too late” to have kids at 40.

She said: “I’ve put work first. I’m scared it’s going to get too late, where I’ve wanted to go, ‘Right, maybe slow down, think about kids and settling down’.”

In her autobiography, she wrote of relationship woes: “Heartbreak is a very lonely place to be. You’re on your own and there’s no cure so it’s something you have to solve on your own.

“I’d love there to be a pill you can take for heartbreak.”

In an interview last year, Caroline told of how she suffered panic attacks and ended up on antidepressants.

She said: “Fame doesn’t make you happy. The day after I won Strictly I felt like somebody had covered my body in clingfilm. I couldn’t get up and couldn’t pick myself up that next year.

“I felt ridiculous being so sad when I’d just won the biggest show on telly and had such an amazing job. People see celebrity lifestyle and assume everything is perfect but we’re like everyone else. Everyone is battling something emotional behind closed doors – that’s life.”

Caroline said she took antidepressants after a panic attack just before going live on X Factor in 2015.

“Fat shamed” by trolls, she complained she and close pal Olly Murs could do “nothing right” after taking over from Dermot O’leary.

Murs was the one constant male in Caroline’s life as other relationships failed. They admitted being flirty when they met on Xtra Factor in 2011 but became firm friends instead.

Sadly, the relationship faltered after their co-presenting gig ended. She said: “We didn’t have a falling out but our confidence was knocked and it took its toll on us.”

Love Island was a true match for Caroline. Friends say she “lived and breathed” the show, keeping in touch with contestants after a series finished. In 2017 she was said to be dating Mike Thalassitis, the Love Islander who hanged himself last year.

She got engaged to The Apprentice star Andrew Brady in 2018. They split up six months later.

She lived through a career of highs and lows and a turbulent personal life. But tributes pouring in show Caroline was someone who was talented, respected and universally liked.

More than that… she was someone who was loved.
