TV COOK’S ‘SWEARY RANT’ IN PUB NOISE ROW

- By Phil Cardy

A TOP chef threatened to throw an eight-month pregnant mum and her fiancé out of his hotel for complaining about a noisy lock-in at the bar.

Nick Deverell-smith, a protege of Gordon Ramsay who appeared on the BBC’S Great British Menu, allegedly hit boiling point when Neil Goulding and partner Jade asked him to turn the music down at his Churchill Arms gastropub.

Writer Neil, 42, had taken Jade, 39, to the Cotswolds pub for a Valentine’s getaway but they claim it was ruined when Deverell-smith, who appeared drunk, launched his rant.

They had gone to bed at 10pm when they say the volume downstairs was ramped up. Neil, who also has a six-year-old daughter with Jade, said: “He had a lockin at his pub and it was like a nightclub. We were laying in bed just listening to the noise. At 1am I went down and asked them to turn it down. He said if we didn’t like it we could ‘f*** off out of his pub’. He said it was a country pub so what did we expect. Around 2am he was at our door ranting at us again.

“The people in the next room came to see what was going on.

He had a row with them too.” Neil, who paid £120 for the room and £80 for the meal in Chipping Campden, Glos, added: “When we checked out the girl on reception apologised, but he was nowhere to seen.”

Deverell-smith, a former junior chef of the year, cooked dishes “inspired by the precision of Wimbledon’s grass”on the BBC show.

He told the People last night: “An incident did occur in my pub on Valentine’s Day which culminated in a necessary discussion between myself and a guest. I was not under the influence of alcohol nor was blasphemous language used.”
