PAST Masterchef winners have enjoyed great success. Some have launching their own restaurant­s, forged TV careers and released their own cookery books. We look back at some of the show’s previous champions.

THOMASINA MIERS – 2005 WINNER

The ex-food writer became a TV celebrity after appearing in her own programmes on Channel 4. She wrote a number of cookery books and columns for national newspapers and magazines and establishe­d her own restaurant, the Mexican-themed Wahaca. It has been so successful the brand now has 25 branches.

TIM ANDERSON – 2011 WINNER

The American-born craft beer bar manager wowed John and Gregg by using elements of Japanese cooking in his dishes. He went on to work at Le Gavroche and the Fat Duck.

Then he opened his own Japanese soul food restaurant Nanban in Brixton, South London, and published a cookbook of the same name.

PING COOMBES – 2014 WINNER

Malaysian-born Ping Coombes was made redundant shortly before being invited on to the show. Since her victory she has run street food classes and appeared at food festivals. She was appointed

Chi Kitchen, the panasian restaurant in Debenhams’ flagship store in London.

KENNY TUTT – 2018 WINNER

Bank manager Kenny Tutt from Worthing, West Sussex, was the 14th home cook to scoop the Masterchef title. He went back to work at Santander in Brighton as well as offering private dining, menu developmen­t and live demonstrat­ions at pop-ups and festivals. He opened his first restaurant Pitch in Worthing last

year.
