Lam will not tame tiger Bev

- By Julie Stott

Wigan v Hull FC Today, 3pm

ADRIAN LAM will continue to give Bevan French licence to thrill with his full array of tricks.

The Wigan coach insists the 24-year-old Aussie still has some vital lessons to learn.

But Lam will never try to stifle the magic the fullback seems able to conjure up from virtually nothing.

The Warriors chief said: “Bevan is exciting to watch and I am sure he is putting bums on seats.

“He is a very smart player and he has been involved in the NRL for a long time. He has an X-factor for us.”

French’s speed and trickery has seen him score three tries in Wigan’s opening three games and he’s constantly hunting more.

The Warriors were cruising to a 32-10 win over Toronto last weekend when, with just 11 seconds left, French almost set up another try with an outrageous bit of skill.

Lam said: “That chip-kick right on full-time got me excited. I love that flamboyant side of rugby league.

“I am not going to tell him not to do that but he has to learn there is a right time and a wrong time.

“He is picking that up as he goes along. We have been working hard with him with his positioning too.”

Wigan host a Hull side today, with both clubs having two wins from three this season. Warriors scrum-half Jackson Hastings said: “It’s great seeing that everyone can beat each other. It makes for an exciting campaign.”

Sam Powell is expected to return for Wigan but, like injury-hit Hull, the hosts have several big hitters out.
