BUT FRANK RUES MISSED CHANCES AFTER FIGHTBACK

BRENTFORD produced a comeback fit for the Premier League – but their finishing is still way short of top-flight class.

Down and out at 2-0 down thanks to Adam Armstrong’s brace, the Bees came storming back thanks to Ollie Watkins’s wonder goal and Said Benrahma’s penalty.

But they should have won this game at a canter, producing a total of 20 shots on the opposition’s goal.

After three straight draws Brentford’s bid for an automatic-promotion slot has stalled.

However, delighted boss Thomas Frank said: “I was so proud.

“When we talk about the four main pillars you need in football it is top attitude, hard work, togetherness and you have to put in a performance.

“Not everything was perfect but when we clicked we had enough chances to score goals.

“After their second goal, there was only one team on the pitch.

“We were relentless and kept producing chances, got the equaliser and totally locked them in and produced chances that could have got us a win.”

Brentford dominated the opening stages but fell behind as Armstrong ran onto Christian Walton’s long ball and lobbed David Raya on 11 minutes.

Frank’s men should have been level long before the break though.

Benrahma could have had a hat-trick but was denied on three occasions by Walton.

And the luckless Bees fell further behind nine minutes after the restart.

Ex-blackburn keeper Raya saved from Armstrong and was then harshly adjudged to have bundled over John Buckley on the rebound.

Armstrong converted the spot-kick for his 12th of the season.

It appeared to be game over, but on 62 minutes Watkins chested down a ball out of nothing before blasting into the top corner.

The goal lifted Brentford with Ethan Pinnock missing a great chance from Josh Dasilva’s corner and then the latter fired an effort over from distance.

But substitute Mads Roerslev then won another controversial penalty after being fouled by Amari’i Bell and the excellent Benrahma showed coolness to convert from the spot on 71 minutes.

The Bees then peppered the Blackburn goal with Bryan Mbeumo superbly denied by Walton.

However, Rovers may still have won it with Raya coming to his side’s rescue to deny Armstrong a hat-trick from a one-onone situation. Blackburn have now lost just one game in eight matches.

And their manager Tony Mowbray said: “We managed Brentford well.

“We know how many talented players they have.

“The crowd was about to turn on them. There were a few grumbles at 2-0 down.

“But it was a bit of magic from their centre-forward – a great take on his chest and volley.

“We were frustrated with the second goal, it appeared a crazy penalty.

“I was laughing because had we VAR today, it might have been 1-0 or 0-0.

“We’re doing OK. We’re not the best but we’ve got speed over the top and we find ways of scoring.”
