Boris is playing Russian roulette with lives of children

-

Families fear children with diminished immunities after transplants and operations are being “sacrificed” as part of the Government’s “Russian roulette” approach to the pandemic.

They are furious the PM has approved a herd immunity approach, which could lead to huge numbers infected.

Last night the mother of Britain’s youngest heart transplant patient said: “Our children have fought so hard through more than most can imagine.

“We don’t want them to become another statistic to this virus.”

Fay Murrish, 30, of Seaham, Co Durham, whose daughter Chanel, five, had surgery minutes after birth, said: “Our children struggle with a simple cold so this virus could be potentially fatal for them.”

Children are not deemed “at risk” of the virus and, unlike other nations, the UK has not closed schools.

Jessica Barker, of Sutton Coldfield, whose fouryear-old daughter Maisie was born with half a heart, said: “Something like this could be catastrophic for my daughter. In my opinion, we don’t know enough about this strain of the virus to take this risk.

“By deciding on herd immunity, Boris has accepted that so many people will die, he is playing Russian roulette with lives and almost treating people with underlying medical problems as disposable. It’s survival of the fittest.”

Sophie Mansuy is self-isolating with her two-year-old son Freddie and five-yearold Frankie, who has undergone a heart and kidney transplant. Sophie, 27, from Newcastle, says she has “cried with fear” because Frankie is on medication for his immune system.

She said: “My little boy has not fought through five major open heart surgeries, a heart transplant and two and a half years of haemodialysis and a kidney transplant to die from coronavirus.”

They spoke after it emerged a child born to a mother with Covid-19 in North Middlesex Hospital had tested positive for the virus. Government advisers have defended the move not to
