ARCHER AIMS HIGH

- By Richard Edwards

JOFRA ARCHER will bounce back from a disappointing winter – and show why he is one of the most special players in world cricket.

That’s the view of Chris Jordan, the England T20 star who knows the Sussex man far better than most.

Archer (left) announced his arrived on the global stage in last summer’s Ashes, taking 22 wickets for just 20 runs apiece.

His spell to Steve Smith in the Lord’s Test was one of the most memorable clashes in an unforgettable international cricket season that also saw him play a key role in England’s World Cup triumph.

But Archer struggled in New Zealand before Christmas and played just a single Test in South Africa before missing the rest of the series through injury.

Talent

He was diagnosed with a stress fracture of the elbow on his return to England.

But Jordan is in no doubt that he’ll back – and ready to remind everyone of just what a special talent he is.

“I know the person and he is special,” said Jordan. “It doesn’t matter what has gone on before, when he gets 22 yards away with the ball in his hand, then he gives it everything.

“He thinks a lot about his game – he studies batsmen and works them out.

“The scary thing about it is there is so much more to come from him as well.

“Every time he has a niggle or injury, he recovers from it quickly or he finds a way of playing through it.

“If it was a case of him not being able to bowl, then it had to be serious. But I know that he’s itching to go again. And when his chance comes again, he’ll absolutely make the most of it.”
