Sunday People

People making history

- Paul Henderson EDITOR OF THE SUNDAY PEOPLE

YOUR Sunday People is making a little bit of history in being entirely written and designed by people working from home.

Our staff, operating from bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms, joined millions of others in the national effort to halt the spread of Covid-19 and protect the NHS.

It will be the same for the foreseeable future. Ways we once took for granted are no longer available. We can’t meet friends, we can’t go to the pub, club or office.

Some of us can’t cuddle our children and grandchildren. The uncertainty has brought out the worst and the best in people.

There has been shameful stockpiling for food and toilet roll. And some are trying to cash in on the crisis. But there has been an incredible groundswell of kindness and fellow feeling.

Just look at those who have volunteered to help the NHS – more than 700,000 of them.

Plus the countless little local incidents where people are looking out for each other.

In the last fortnight I’ve walked past total strangers on my daily permitted exercise and so many times they’ve said politely: “How are you? Keep safe.” It is heartwarming.

At the Sunday People we will work tirelessly to bring you accurate news reporting and analysis. And we salute those who cannot work at home – printers, delivery drivers and shop workers. We will speak truth to power. We will congratulate our heroic health professionals risking their lives to save ours.

We are in this together. You can be confident we are living through it as much as you. We will ensure you get your favourite, trusted newspaper. Yours (from a spare bedroom),
