The Ryte House
Hillary Clinton asked Rylan to become a personal aide
TV favourite Rylan Clark-neal has revealed he could have ended up in the White House.
He met Hillary Clinton in 2014 and made such a good impression on the politician that she asked him to be her personal aide.
The former First Lady, who stood against Donald Trump in the fight to be US President, offered Rylan a job when they met on ITV’S
This Morning.
But Rylan, 31, who found fame after appearing on the X
Factor, turned down Hillary, 72.
The Ready Steady Cook host explained the former US Secretary of State’s bizarre offer during his Radio 2 show yesterday while chatting to comedian Katherine Ryan. He said:
“You know Hillary Clinton actually offered me a job once... as in, like, genuinely. It was when I worked on This Morning, we used to do this thing called The Hub where I was off the side of the set with a big screen doing viewer comments.
“I called her ‘Hills babe’ and then everyone went mad because they were like, ‘This could potentially be the next
President, ra ra.’ Anyway, we had a lovely chat and she was like, ‘I’d love you to be my personal aide’.
“I didn’t [take the job], but I did say to her – and I won’t say the exact words because it’s not BBC Radio 2 friendly – I said, ‘Hillary, if I say a certain swear word on daytime TV and lose all my jobs, I’ll give you a ring.”
Hillary, wife of former President Bill, 73, lived eight years in the White House. Had she beaten Mr Trump and Rylan accepted her job he is unlikely to have been fazed by the new role.
From starting as a joke act on X Factor in 2012, the hardworking Essex boy has become one Britain’s most in-demand presenters.
After finishing fifth in the ITV talent show, he went on to win Celebrity Big
Brother 11. He got to present Big Brother’s Bit on the Side, This Morning and The Xtra Factor. He is also the host of the revived Supermarket Sweep as well as Ready Steady Cook.
In 2015 he married Big Brother contestant Dan Neal.
And despite turning down Hillary he is a fan of politics.
He co-hosted Channel 4’s Alternative Election Night show last year.
He has defend himself against critics who say he should not talk about politics on Twitter.
Rylan said he felt “no pressure to fit in a box others want to put [him] in” and added: “Politics is something I’ve been interested in for a long time.”
