PRINCE William has told how the raw emotions he felt over his mum’s death came flooding back when he became a parent himself.

In a heartfelt interview the Duke of Cambridge said having children was “one of the most amazing and also one of the scariest” moments in life.

And he admitted the pain he felt over the death of Princess Diana returned “in leaps and bounds” when he became a dad.

In new TV documentary Football, Prince William and our Mental Health camera crews followed William for a year during his campaign to open up a conversation around mind issues.

The programme is part of a wider project to use football to encourage men to talk about their emotions.

In a clip William is seen talking to former

Bolton and Burnley and Game of Thrones actor Tom, 29, managed a game of football in the sun too.

Daisy plays Marianne in the BBC hit series, alongside TV lover Paul

Mescal, 24. And poor Tom admitted he found the many sex scenes “weird” to watch. player Marvin Sordell, who had depression after growing up without his father. William, now 37 and a dad of three, says to Marvin: “Having children is the biggest life-changing moment, it really is.

“When you’ve been through something traumatic, like your dad not being around, my mother dying when I was younger, the emotions come back in leaps and bounds.”

William was 15 when Diana died in a car crash in Paris in 1997. His brother Harry, who was only 12, has spoken often of his torment which continues to this day.

In the programme the duke, who is president of the Football Association, also says: “You can’t be ashamed of your mental health. It’s OK not to be OK.”

Marvin opens up about his own ordeals including a suicide attempt in 2013.

He says: “I was in a really bad place and thought, ‘I can’t do this any more.’”
