Klopp’s men in good Kompany

-

WITH Liverpool traders ready for the moment Jurgen Klopp’s men are finally crowned Premier League kings, the Merseysiders have received an unexpected sympathy vote from one of their former rivals... Vincent Kompany.

The former Manchester City skipper (below), who lifted the League trophy four times during his time at the Etihad, said:“i can imagine what the players are going through, I can empathise. How bad’s your luck, right?

“But we need to hope the rightful winners get everything they deserve.”

And so do the city’s market traders. As our exclusive pictures show, shops and stallholders began buying in souvenir stock when the Reds romped clear at the top of the Premier League.

But with just two wins required to confirm Liverpool as champions, the coronavirus pandemic halted the season.

Traders will be hoping that

Project Restart will enable Liverpool to claim the six points they need to land the club’s first title since 1990. The alternative would cost Merseyside businesses a fortune.

With June 12 pencilled in for a resumption of Premier League action behind closed doors, there are still concerns over Liverpool fans converging on Anfield when they win the title.

But Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said: “I do believe we can appeal to fans not to congregate outside football grounds or go to other people’s houses to watch football matches in contravention of the Government guidelines.”
