Robbie’s back... is it for good? Virtual Take That gig thrills fans

- By Halina Watts SHOWBIZ EDITOR

TAKE That fans were wondering… Could It Be Magic?

And their heroes did not disappoint as they reunited for Friday night’s virtual charity gig.

Robbie Williams, who sensationally quit the band in 1995, joined Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald as they performed from their own homes.

And now the fans are asking another question – is Robbie Back For Good?

One said: “It was great to see them together again.

“Let’s hope this is just the beginning.”

Robbie, 46, joined his pals after they warmed up with Greatest Day and Shine.

And he told how performing virtually was “less weird than in front of 80,000 people”.

Gary, 49, led the lockdown concert from his home studio, kitted out with keyboards and microphones, while Mark, 48, appeared to be in the middle of decorating and sang from his garage.

Some fans questioned Mark’s dishevelled look – comparing him to Tiger King’s Joe Exotic and comedian Keith Lemon.

Between tracks, the group talked about new skills they had learned during the lockdown. Howard, 52, said he had been reading more than ever – while Mark admitted he had become more sparing with toilet roll use. The charity stream was hosted by animated TV adverts character Aleksandr Orlov from comparethemeerkat.com, voiced by Alan Partridge actor Simon Greenall, 62.

The site was hosting the concert on its Youtube page. Proceeds from the gig will go to music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins and Crew Nation, which supports concert crew workers affected by the Covid-19 crisis.

Fifth original Take That member Jason Orange, 49, left the band in 2014.
