quarantined. Shadow Home Secretary Nick Thomas-symonds today writes to Home Secretary

Priti Patel, calling for: “A rapid testing programme where no one will have to wait more than 24 hours to receive a test and no more than 24 hours to receive the result.” He wants SAGE experts’ advice on quarantine to be published, an aid package to save jobs, and clarity on air bridges to other countries.

Ms Patel is facing a rebellion from Tory MPS and travel firms. British Airways is considering legal action over the “irrational” rules, due to begin tomorrow.

Best of friends... 63 years apart

THEY may have a sixdecade age gap – but it hasn’t stopped a lockdown friendship blossoming between 87-year-old Sylvia Wiseman and her 24-year-old lodger Olivia Faulkes.

When they aren’t watching Netflix, they are teaching each other about what each generation likes to do.

The two strangers ended up selfisolating together after Olivia moved in with Sylvia in Willesden, North West London. Sylvia – who has who has four great grandkids – is teaching her how to dance to 1940s music, while Olivia is bringing the widow up to date with technology. Sylvia says: “Olivia is a great companion, encouraging me to lead a full and fun life. I really couldn’t have coped on my own during lockdown. I feel incredibly lucky to have her here.”

Olivia, who lost her retail job, says: “We share all our meals and pot lots of plants. I’ve learnt so much, particularly how important companionship is for both generations.”
