QUEEN’S ADMIRATION

Monarch hails kindness of ‘inspiring’ volunteers

-

THE Queen has sent a message of thanks to Britain’s army of volunteers who help those in need.

It comes as Prince William released a photo of him with son George, six, and daughter Charlotte, five, delivering food parcels to people living near their Norfolk home last month.

The Queen, 94, said: “As Volunteers’ Week draws to a close, it is inspiring to reflect on the many thousands of people who, through their acts of kindness, have achieved so much for the greater good. I have been following how men and women around the world, including my own family, have been helping and recognising the vital role of the volunteer.

“I send best wishes to all those who give themselves so selflessly in the service of others.”

Senior royals – including William’s wife Kate – have joined the ranks of NHS Volunteer Responders and made phone calls to people self-isolating.

William, 37, and Kate, 38, also made video calls to several worthy organisations.

And the prince revealed he has been doing shifts on a helpline for people in crisis. He joined the volunteers who trained to respond to those using Shout 85258 – the UK’S first round-theclock text message service for people struggling to cope.

A palace source said: “During the coronavirus crisis, the entire family has felt united in their duty to highlight the important causes and efforts by so many selfless people around the country who give up their time to help others.”
