I pray Mccanns find peace

-

EVERY morning and evening for 13 years Kate Mccann has opened and closed the curtains in her daughter Madeleine’s bedroom.

Nothing has changed in the pretty pink room with glow stars on the ceiling since the spring of 2007.

Since the morning her excited threeyear-old bounced out of bed, thrilled to be going on holiday to Portugal with Mummy, Daddy, Sean and Amelie.

So the room has become a sanctuary of hope.

Sometimes Kate curls up on the bed because Madeleine would always say “Lay with me mummy!” before their goodnight kiss.

Then she prays, and dreams of the day she can finally hold her daughter again. But Kate Mccann’s dreams have recently been ambushed by her worst nightmare.

Madeleine’s kidnapper may finally have been found after years of agonising emptiness.

But the suspect is a convicted rapist, torturer and child sex fiend who allegedly filmed depraved attacks.

And German police say they are proceeding on the assumption Madeleine is dead. So the awful question

I’VE finally got my sweet tooth back, after the mammoth baking session I mentioned last week.

And I’ve just enjoyed the last home made scone with a big dollop of clotted cream and strawberry jam.

Readers in Cornwall would now be tutting at my Devonian scone sacrilege, because down there it’s jam first and then cream.

But they’re busy getting behind local resident Dawn French who is up in arms at an M&S atrocity. Strawberry inside Kate’s head must be: “What the hell did he do to her?”

I was in Praia da Luz hours after Madeleine was abducted and have covered the case for 13 years.

But the investigation was such a shambles I feared it would never be solved – until now. Because so many details seem to fit And it’s chilling.

Kate and Gerry must be sickened by the graphic details of the suspect’s previous attacks and tortured by horrendous images. But they still cling to their dream. Spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “Kate and Gerry still fervently hope that Madeleine will be found alive despite everything that appears to be happening.

“They continue to hope until they can be shown incontrovertible evidence which proves she is not.

“But they are being realistic and simply want to know what has happened to their daughter.

“They want a resolution and, after all these years, they want peace.” I pray they get it.

And if Madeleine IS dead I pray they find her body, so they can finally lay her to rest.

But, in the meantime, Kate will continue the ritual of opening and closing Madeleine’s bedroom curtains.

And thinking of how her precious daughter felt as

she lay in her arms.

Clotted Cream. Yes Markies have mixed the cream and jam together into a pale pink sickly mess.

Dawn was rightly outraged and tweeted: “There’s hell on. Am mobilising the Cornish Barbarian Horde...we will not rest till this battle is won and our cream is safe again.”

Now supporters are threatening to boycott their local M&S stores in protest at the Frankenstein creation or bun fight in the aisles.

Blimey. The world’s scone mad.
