Scam of the week
First, find out what is included with the pitch fee. It can simply be the right to house your caravan or holiday home but it may include access to the facilities and entertainment, waste collection and ground maintenance.
SALES PITCH: Dig out the marketing material you received from the sales agent to see what they said when you signed up. Also look on the park’s website to see what it says about fees. It is highly likely the owners of the park enticed you into buying it with statements such as: “It includes access to all facilities and entertainment.”
THE LAW: The Competition and Markets Authority released a statement on April 30 where it gave its view on the law. It clearly stated consumers should be refunded for services not received.
THE REDUCTION: Where the fee includes more than just the right to use the pitch, you will be entitled to a partial refund. Ask the park owners to provide a breakdown of costs to help you reach a figure.
FRAUDSTERS are dreaming up cruel new ways to cash in on the NHS contact tracing app.
I have received loads of reports from people who have received texts claiming to be from contact tracers. They tell them they have come into contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19, or is showing symptoms. Included in the text is a link to a bogus website that asks for personal information.
This can all be used by the fraudster to gain access to bank accounts or commit identity fraud so do not fall for it.
