LONG LIVE THE KING

RUGBY LEAGUE EXCLUSIVE Toby: I’ll not give up my shirt to legend Inglis without fight

- By Julie Stott

TOBY KING has promised to make world superstar Greg Inglis understand he’s got a fight on his hands when he arrives at Warrington.

England Knights star King has been copping stick off team-mates about how he’ll lose his centre spot to Inglis when the Australian arrives for the 2021 campaign.

But King, who is in Shaun Wane’s thoughts for next year’s World Cup, insists he’s excited rather than intimidated by the competition.

The 23-year-old said: “There’s been a lot of banter but hopefully it won’t happen – I do not want to lose my spot.

“I have got to look at the positives. We’ve got the best centre in the world coming to our club so I’m going to look forward to learning off him and enjoy it.”

Aussie legend Inglis (right), 33, is coming out of retirement to join the Wolves next season and he’ll no doubt be keeping an eye on King before then, as Super League restarts. King can also play second row but, before lockdown, was in sensational form at centre alongside winger Tom Lineham.

They’re an awesome partnership, in attack as well as defence, with King proudly pointing out that they have yet to concede a try down their left edge in seven games this season.

But away from the pitch, things are definitely bumpier between the close mates, after King lodged with Lineham for several months before moving into his new house.

Cleaning

Cinderella to do it all for him.

“I loved him before but I actually hated him by the end of the four months.”

King was amused to hear Lineham’s assessment, and hit back with: “I reckon for £400 a month rent I could leave my bed however I

wanted. boring spending lockdown living on my own so I wanted to be with my family.

“It’s meant that I’ve been able to do a lot of gym and conditioning sessions with George which has been really good.”
