THREE people were feared stabbed to death and 11 injured when a knifeman went berserk in a town park last night.

Families strolling in the evening sunshine stared in horror as the maniac pounced on a group of pals sitting on the grass and enjoying a beer in Forbury Gardens in Reading, Berks.

A lone police sergeant who was near the scene of the attack bravely chased the knifeman and rugby-tackled him.

Other officers who flooded the scene desperately tried to save the victims with CPR as they lay on the blood-soaked ground.

Two air ambulances swooped into the park while a police helicopter scoured the area for a possible second attacker.

The Royal Berkshire Hospital in

Reading closed its A&E department to any new patients other than those involved in the stabbings.

Hours earlier a peaceful Black Lives Matter demonstration had taken place in the park but is not thought to be connected to the attack.

Lone

Dan, a 26-year-old local, said he was drinking wine in the park with two friends when he noticed a commotion about 20 metres away.

He saw a man approach a group sitting in the sun. Dan said: “They were just in a circle chatting.”

The man appeared to race around the group tapping them on the head.

Dan said: “I thought someone had been sick, then we realised it was blood spraying out.”

Dan and his friends suddenly realised the group were being attacked. He and his two friends sprang up and began running away as they saw the attacker move toward another group.

He said he saw the man aim a blow to a woman’s neck but couldn’t be sure if he was using a knife as he and his friends never got a close enough

The woman “dropped like a weight,” Dan said.

“I think six to eight people were stabbed, with four people who dropped to the ground and were immobile.

“I saw a man with his face bleeding but stood up. When the first two people were stabbed the group stood up, and two of them who had dropped to the ground were stood up.”

Dan said it all happened so quickly, that the crowds in the busy park hadn’t noticed.

“It was strange – not like you see in films, there was no screaming.”

A source said: “A man pulled a knife and started attacking people at random in Reading near the crown court building.

“Three people are believed to have died and several are injured.

“The area has been locked down as there are concerns there could be a second suspect.” The source went on: “It appears the attack was stopped when a lone sergeant, responded when the alarm was raised.

“He ran to the scene, saw the attacker running away with a knife and rugby tackled him to the ground.”

Randomly

Passer-by Lawrence Wort tweeted: “Around 7pm 4 people got stabbed in Forbury Gardens, 3 very seriously.

“The 3 in a group were sat in a large group just drinking beers when a guy randomly attacked them.

“Nothing to do with a BLM protest, just one lone nutter.”

Home Secretary Priti Patel tweeted: “Deeply concerned to hear reports of
