QI PURCHASED an induction hob just before the lockdown and had it installed. However, I then discovered it only works with special pans. I feel that I was misled. What can I do? Rita Harper LOOK closely at the advert on the retailer’s website to see how the hob was described. If it says anywhere that there is a need to use special pans, you will not be entitled to any remedy. If there is no mention of this, you can claim you have been misled.

MY local shop only accepts card payments at the moment. Is this lawful? Graham Jacobs

LOTS of people are complaining about this. The reason is because of the risk of the spread of Covid-19 via cash, but no law prohibits traders from deciding what methods of payment they will accept.

AQ AQI AGREED to buy some garden furniture from a salesman who knocked on my door. I paid a £200 deposit but have heard nothing since and the number he gave me doesn’t work. Dave Redmond IT sounds like you have been scammed. If you gave the fraudster cash, there is nothing you

Acan do. If you transferred the money via your bank, you can claim it back. In any event, report it to the police.

I BOUGHT a contract law book online for £89.95 but I was amazed to see it is largely out of date. Should the company have sold this to me? Dale Green

UNLESS the description stated that the book was up to date as at

2020 you will have no recourse. Law books go out of date almost the day after they are written and old editions are often put up for sale.

IF I accept a voucher instead of a cash refund and the retailer goes bust, will I lose my money? Shirley Wold UNFORTUNATELY yes, unless the administrator of the business agrees to accept vouchers, which they rarely do.
